The best knot for tying heavy mono to hooks or swivels is the three turn thumb knot. But it takes a lot of experience to tie it with 500 lb mono.

But not now! the TraceMate is a great new tool that makes tying heavy mono simple. Using the TraceMate anyone can tie a strong, secure thumb knot with just a few minutes practice.

Lay the hook shank down in the slot and you can snell double hook rigs in under two minutes!

The guys who manufacture the TraceMate work in the aerospace industry and it shows in the quality. Solid aircraft quality aluminium alloy with a durable red anodised finish and a lanyard attachment so that your fishing buddies can't steal it!

Price US$16.50

See how simple TraceMate is to use:

1. Thread line through eye of hook and place into TraceMate as shown (with hook point pointing down, inside central channel). 4. Slowly slide off the turns at the same time as pulling on the tag end. Keep tension on the leader length as before.
2. Loop tag end 3 times around nose of TraceMate starting at small end keeping tension on leader length. 5. Pull on both lines to tighten knot. Moisten knot to aid tightening.
3. Feed tag end of line through both the central channel and the three loops you’ve just made. Keep tension on leader length.

6. Move knot to other side and pull both lines to tighten knot as shown.

7. Trim tag end back to suit.

N.B. A large tag end can be used for bait holding. We recommend starting off with 100lb line as this will be easier to manage. Once proficient with this you can progress to 250lb line.
