How to tie the Improved Albright knot

I find this version of the Albright special knot a little easier to tie than the regular version, and it’s even stronger. The extra wraps passing between the turned over leader material help to stop the coils of thinner main line from slipping off the end of the loop as the knot is tightened.

Form the knot exactly as if you were tying a regular Albright special, but when you have finished making your wraps around both strands of the leader make a further 5 or 6 wraps around just one strand of the leader material and the main line as shown.

As before, lubricate the knot with saliva and pull tight, gently snugging up the coils as you tighten.
